Brandon

Brandon was born in California, where he lived with his family in the famous city of Los Angeles. From there he moved to Miami, Florida when he was in third grade. He sometimes wishes he was in California, however. He thinks that every city there is full of life and that there is always something to do. Even though he misses Los Angeles, he enjoys being in Miami. Miami has become a place he can call home, for him and for his family. Brandon’s parents are Mexican, that moved to the United States of America before he was born. Therefore, Brandon has acquired the Hispanic culture from his parents.

He was taught to speak spanish at a young age, since his family doesn’t speak English. He was taught to speak Spanish at home by his parents, and he also took Spanish classes at school. However, even though he was taught to speak English as well, he had a noticeable accent, for which kids made fun off at school. Brandon feels that being Hispanic has had some effects in his life. Apart from being made fun off at school, which he quickly got over, he feels that being from Latin America has put some obstacles in his life. He says “my parents, being from where they are from and coming here, I know that they struggled”. He knows that it cost them to get back on their feet after they moved, which had some effects on his life. Brandon is also a first generation student. He says that he is the first one in his family to go to an actual University instead of some community college. Therefore, he feels a lot of pressure since it was tough for him and his parents to get him where he is now. Regardless of all the hardships, Brandon keeps his head up and says “ yeah I’m proud of being Hispanic; it’s my background, my parents, my tradition”. This shows that even though being Mexican has caused some difficulties in his life, he is proud of being who he is, and doesn't let others bring him down. Finally, Brandon finishes saying that his favorite color is baby blue, he likes it because he says it goes well with shoes, clothes, walls, and more. Additionally, he added that he likes to play videogames with his friends, especially Fortnite and Call of Duty. He also like to videochat his girlfriend.
