Melissa Goldthwaite explains that to research for learning one must become immersed on one’s topic. She says that, for example, if you are researching about oranges, peel one, eat one, smell one, make juice with one. Basically learn everything about it, experience it. She says that this research can add to what we already know, and in some cases, change it. She says that some specifics or our writing are found only through research. To research for writing, Melissa says that we should write up whatever observation or idea we have. She tells us to use a shoe box and in it put all the ideas we have had written in a piece of paper, napkin, etc. Later, we will be able to go back and search for inspiration in that box. She says that we are a source of information, through our experiences, observations, and our lives we can take out many ideas, so we should write them down. The one I used the most for my last project was research through learning. I had informal conversations, watched videos, looked at the sky, imagined things, to get the information I needed. For my video for example, I did research for writing. I’ve been thinking on what to put on my video and how to do it. Every Time I’ve had an idea, I had written it down on my phone.
