Artist Statement

Youtube Video

I composed in this genre because it does a good job on grabbing my audience's attention. I have composed in this genre before, for different projects, as well as for recreational use. I did not start with any different genre, from the beginning, I knew I wanted to make a video. To make this video, first, I made a script. I reviewed the points I wanted to talk about in the video. I organized them and planned what would be happening in the video while I say my ideas to my audience. Then, I went outside and started recording myself talking. I did this on different places on campus. My roommate helped me record the shots I needed for the video. Then, I went back to my dorm and started editing what I had recorded. I also used a lot of videos and pictures from the internet to give a better explanation of my points. Finally, I used a microphone to record myself saying some more information, and put it on the video. This video was posted on Youtube under the name of “The Science Necessary to colonize Mars”. The audience that this video is meant for is different from the audience my research paper was meant for. This video is meant to appeal people my age, especially STEM students, and inform them on what is needed to go to Mars. Even though the video is informational, I try to keep things simple so that everybody can understand. I also add some comic relief here and there to make sure I do not lose the audience’s attention.

Instagram Page

I composed in this genre because it is a great way to reach students. Most students nowadays use social media every single day. So by choosing this genre, I can better deliver my ideas to my audience. I have composed in this genre before, I have had many Instagram pages for myself, my dog, my website, etc. I did not start with a different genre. I knew this was going to be a great way to reach young people, since they are so involved in social media. To compose in this genre, I first had to create my Instagram page. I used my school email to create the page. Then I had to choose a name. For this, I decide to name my page “FatRocket” because it was funny and easy to remember, for me and my future followers. After that it was pretty simple. I just looked at my research paper and got ideas from there on what to post on my page. Then I just looked for images online that were related to my ideas. I also added some hashtags on many posts to attract my viewers. In the end I focused on stating benefits on colonizing Mars. This Instagram page goes under the name “FatRocket” or under the username “aea17d” in the Instagram app.The audience that this Instagram page will reach might be slightly different from my Youtube video. The reason for this is that for one to find my page, one needs to search for posts related to my topic. So I expect my Instagram page to reach students and many other kinds of people that already have a slight interest on Mars and space exploration, but that want to learn more. I used logos to explain may points and ethos to give credibility to my posts by citing the sources of the images.

Twitter Account

I composed in this genre because a lot of the information that reach me nowadays, is through Twitter. In Twitter people talk about what they think, their points of view, provide news, and their opinions on those news. So I thought that Twitter was a good place to provide news about my topic. I have never composed in this genre before. I have Twitter account for myself, but I have never posted anything on it. Therefore, it was a little more challenging than Instagram at first. I did not start with anything else, I knew that Twitter was a great place to provide news and information about my topic. To compose in this genre, I had to first make my Twitter account. For this, I also used my school email and used the same name as my Instagram page “FatRocket” so that way it is like one page with presences on multiple social media platforms. I used the same profile picture as well for this reason. Then I just had to figure out how to use the platform. I guided myself with other posts I had seen about space and other things. Then, I started posting pictures and myspace and Mars exploration news. I also retweeted some tweets from other accounts. This genre is on the Twitter website online under the name of “FatRocket”. The audience for my Twitter account is very similar to the audience of my Instagram account. Even though people who use Instagram are generally younger than those who use Twitter, for one to find my page one has to follow content related to the content I post on my account. So the audience is people who have an interest on Mars exploration and colonization, and my job is to provide them with news about this topic.
